SHAX Games

SHAX Games approached us with a vision to create a fully standalone, offline-first gaming platform that combines entertainment with purpose—connecting players to SHAX Charity's mission of supporting families facing poverty and homelessness in Dumfries & Galloway. The challenge was to build a platform featuring 13 diverse games—from action games like SHAX Delivery and SHAX Road Race to strategy games like SHAX Chess and SHAX Tower Defence—that works completely offline with all data stored locally, while maintaining fast load times, smooth performance, and an engaging user experience that appeals to players of all ages.

We developed a fully client-side gaming platform with user profiles, XP systems, achievements, and leaderboards—all stored locally in the browser. All 13 games and the site were created entirely by us: from concept and design through to build and launch, with no third-party game engines or pre-made game assets. Players earn XP, unlock achievements, and climb leaderboards while learning about SHAX's impact through integrated game content, with all progress saved directly to local storage. The platform requires no API calls, works entirely offline, and features responsive layouts that work beautifully across devices, from desktop gaming setups to mobile phones. We implemented audio controls for background music and sound effects, along with smooth animations and interactive elements that enhance the user experience without compromising performance.

The result is a dynamic, fully standalone gaming platform that successfully engages players while raising awareness of SHAX Charity's vital work. With 13 diverse games including action, strategy, puzzle, and creative games (like SHAX Drawing Board and SHAX Coloring Book), complete offline functionality, and all user data stored locally, SHAX Games provides an exceptional gaming experience that matches the excitement of their game offerings while connecting players to a meaningful charitable purpose—all without requiring an internet connection or server infrastructure.

Technically, the platform is fully client-side: no backend or API, so it runs entirely in the browser. Vanilla JavaScript (with no heavy framework) drives the games, and Local Storage holds user profiles, XP, achievements and leaderboards so progress survives refresh and works offline. Asset loading is kept lean for fast startup, and the layout is responsive so it plays well on desktop and mobile. There is no server or database—everything is self-contained for reliability and simplicity.
