About this project
Blumen Flowers & Coffee in Dalswinton Village needed a website that truly reflected their brand and dual offering of flowers and artisan coffee. We rebuilt their site from scratch with full custom code—no templates or themes—so every section could be tailored to their story, their space, and how customers discover and visit The Dalswinton Shop.
The new site includes an About section introducing Emma and her story, The Shop as a community hub, and clear flower collections: weddings, sympathy, special occasions, and daily arrangements. A full Coffee & Menu section showcases hot drinks, cakes and treats, and specialty coffee. The design emphasises local charm and easy navigation, with a gallery, customer reviews, and straightforward visit information— address, phone, email, What3Words, and opening hours—so visitors can find and support Blumen with confidence.
The custom-built site has strengthened Blumen's online presence and local visibility. With improved user experience, targeted SEO, and a single digital destination that matches the quality and character of the business, the website now supports both flower orders and café visits while reflecting the warmth and dedication that make Blumen a beloved part of Dalswinton Village.
Technically, the site is hand-coded with semantic HTML5 and responsive CSS—custom properties for theming, flexbox and grid for layout—so there are no theme or plugin dependencies. JavaScript is used sparingly for navigation, smooth scrolling and any interactive elements (e.g. gallery or accordions), keeping the bundle small and load times low. Images are optimised and lazy-loaded where appropriate, and the structure follows a clear hierarchy with sensible heading levels and landmark regions for screen readers. Meta tags, canonical URLs and local business cues are in place for search, and the codebase is maintainable so future updates to the menu, opening hours or content stay straightforward.
