About this project
Balmoral Chippy is a family-run fish and chip shop in Dumfries with over 100 years of tradition. The challenge was to create a site that would reflect the heritage and quality of a long-standing family business, let customers browse the full menu (fish & chips, burgers, drinks, 16 flavours of Italian ice cream), order online, and manage an account with stamp card and favourites—while working reliably on mobile and desktop with an installable app experience, supporting kitchen workflow with order receipts on Sunmi POS devices, and ranking well locally with strong SEO and structured data.
Our approach focused on a clean, welcoming design that fits the brand; a mobile-first responsive layout and touch-friendly ordering; a custom PHP API and admin for menu, orders and analytics with secure auth; a PWA with install prompts and browser-specific instructions; and a custom Android app for Sunmi V2 POS tablets—the “Balmoral App”—that uses the Sunmi Printer SDK to receive print jobs from the web terminal via a custom URL scheme, so staff can tap “Print Receipt” in the app and the device prints the order automatically. We also implemented full SEO (canonical URLs, Open Graph, Schema.org Restaurant and Menu, sitemap) and accessibility (semantic HTML, ARIA, skip links, keyboard and screen-reader friendly).
The result is a fast, accessible site that supports both walk-in and online customers: full online ordering with cart and collection time, accounts with registration, login, favourites and stamp card (10 stamps = £5 off), an installable PWA from the homepage, a full admin for menu management and order handling with kitchen/terminal view on web and Sunmi devices, and the Balmoral App so orders can be printed to the built-in thermal printer.
